In which I reveal my eclectic yet mundane musical taste...

Update: Okay, time's up. I'm putting in the answers for the rest. Thanks for playing along!

As seen at Legal Quandary

A.If you’ve got an iPod or similar technology, copy your Top 25 Most Played.
B. Then pick a lyric from each.
C. Post the lyrics on your blog.
D. Have commenters guess what the song is.
E. Either strike out the lyric once it has been correctly identified or place the guesser’s user name directly after the lyric.
F. Extra points for knowing the artist. Let’s not go overboard and try to figure out albums. I’m not even sure I could figure some of them out. Heck, some of the lyrics would stump me and I'm the one posting them.
G. NO INTERNET ASSISTANCE.

1.

If you could see what I have seen
Broken hearts and broken dreams
Whoa oh oh oh
Then I wake up and you're not there
Pain finds me everywhere
Oh, but you don't care...

Law Mommy has the right decade - 80's - and I added a few more lyrics...
of course, it's "Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone" - Glass Tiger

2.

And I offer no sympathy for that
Better off I sparkle on my own

"In the Rough" - Anna Nalick

3.

You were dedicated, you took the time
Wasn’t long before I called you mine

Frolics and Detours is right: Since U Been Gone by Kelly Clarkson.

4.

Raised in the city under a halo of lights
The product of war and fear that we’ve been victimized

Otis is right: "St. Jimmy" by Green Day.

5.

If I had my way, I’d never get over you
Today’s the day I pray that we make it through

"Fall to Pieces" - Avril Lavigne

6.

Now that we know for sure they tell lies
When they say know one gets hurt and nobody dies
You know it’s hard to believe anything that you hear
They say the world is round

"Metal Heart" - Garbage

7.
We’re the same, and you don’t even know it
We’re afraid and we try not to show it
And you’re tired and I am too
So there’s only one thing you can do

"Hold On To Me" - Nina Gordon

8.

Oh they turn their heads embarrassed
Pretend that they don’t see
That’s it’s one misstep, one slip before you know it
And there doesn’t seem a way to be redeemed

ChickenMagazine is close - it's "Fallen" by Sarah McLachlan

9.

You left a stain
On every one of my good days
But I am stronger than you know
I have to let you go

Otis is right again: "Disease" by Matchbox Twenty.

10.
It never was and never will be
You don’t know how you’ve betrayed me

"Everybody's Fool" - Evanescence

11.

Like a blind dog without a bone
I was a gypsy lost in the Twilight Zone
I hijacked a rainbow and crashed into a pot of gold

Law Mommy even got the version right: "Who Says You Can't Go Home" Bon Jovi with Jennifer Nettles (from Sugarland)

12.

The hands of time have spoken for the chosen one
Cold steel glistens in the dawning sun

"Thin Red Line" - Glass Tiger

13.

I tried to kill my pain, but only brought more
So much more
I lay dying, and I’m pouring crimson red blood and betrayal

"Tourniquet" - Evanescence

14.

Good times for a change
See the luck I’ve had could make a good man turn bad

ChickenMagazine again with "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" by The Smiths.

15.

But it’s just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes

Law Mommy again with "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers

16.

Sink like a stone that’s been thrown in the ocean
My logic has drowned in a sea of emotion

"Be Still My Beating Heart" - Sting

17.

She’s been to private school, and she speaks perfect French
She’s got her perfect friends, oh isn’t she cool?

"Don't Bother" - Shakira

18.

In the outskirts, and on the fringes
In the corner, out of the grip

Kristine gets it with "Left of Center" by Suzanne Vega

19.

I don’t want to spend my time in hell
Looking at the walls of a prison cell
I don’t ever want to play the part
Of a statistic on a government chart

ChickenMagazine is correct: "Invisible Sun" by The Police.

20.

From the day we met, you made me forget all my fears

"Wrong Again" - Martina McBride

21.

I can’t stay on your life support
There’s a shortage in the switch
I can’t stay on your morphine
It’s making me itch

ChickenMagazine is close - it is Pink - Law Mommy gets the title "(Just Like A) Pill"

22.

And the sign said “The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls.”

Kristine is right: It's "The Sound of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkel

23.

I’ve got a bowling ball in my stomach, and a desert in my mouth
Figures that my courage would choose to sell out now

ChickenMagazine gets it: "Crucify" by Tori Amos.

24.

And just when I thought time had set me free
Those thoughts of you keep taunting me

"Here I Am" - Air Supply (this song makes me think of 7th grade)

25.

And there’s no mountain too high, no river too wide
Sing out this song and I’ll be there by your side
Storm clouds may gather, and stars may collide
But I love you, until the end of time

"Come What May" - from Moulin Rouge

Father's Day

Today was a hard day. We never really made a big deal about Father's Day with my dad - just a funny card, maybe pancakes for breakfast, take him out to dinner or make his favorite dinner at home. No ties or watches or plasma TVs or anything fancy. He always said his favorite Father's Day gift was me: when I was born, they brought me home from the hospital on Father's Day. (This was back when new moms got to stay in the hospital for a week or so after having a baby.)

Happy Father's Day, Dad.

Update Again

So my mom and brother made it back last Saturday, but my dad's body didn't get back until the day before yesterday. The coroner in England couldn't determine a cause of death, so now they have to go through the inquest process before issuing a death certificate. This of course only adds to the paperwork my mother is already doing. We finally get to have the memorial service on Tuesday, so we've been preparing for that. I made a photo collage of pictures of Dad throughout his life to display. It was fun to put together, but hard because he was usually the one taking the pictures, so we didn't have very many good pictures of him. I found some great ones of him when he was a kid, though.

I still feel mostly numb, though. I still can't believe he's really gone.
