Car shopping
So I think it's time to trade in the old 1995 Escort and get something newer - I'm planning to go car shopping tomorrow. Anyone have any suggestions for something like the old Escort - smallish 4-door, but sporty? Affordable, reliable, and not too dowdy looking?
I hate car shopping, which is why I've been driving the same car for 12 years. If they were still making the Escort I'd probably buy that again, but I don't like the new Focus as much. Of course, that might change after I drive one.

If you're talking about new cars I have a few ideas for you.
Mazda 3: best new car under $20,000 bar none. Comes as a sedan or 5 door/hatch/wagon. (I prefer the wagon for the functionality.) Fun to drive, looks quite stylish, and if you're an automatic kind of lady it has a 5 speed auto. (The stick shift is the best manual I've ever driven.) They might have some leftover '07s on clearance too.
Ford Focus '08 edition. Ford just gave this a mid cycle enhancement. 4 door sedan only and if you can get past the front end styling (for my tastes a little too angular but I've improved my opinion recently) I'm told it actually drives decently and is rather quiet inside.
Chevy HHR: nice little trucklet. Very functional, good value.
Mitsubshi Lancer: brand new design and I'm hearing lots of good things. If I were shopping I would give it a drive.
Honda Civic: perenial small car sales champ for a reason. The dashboard design is love it or hate it, but otherwise no one has a bad thing to say about the car.
Subaru Impreza: the all wheel drive doesn't do much where you live, but if you can live with the slightly subpar fuel economy (all wheel drive comes with a price) it's a good car. Comes as sedan and hatch/wagon.
Email me if you ever have a question :-)
