It's not a holiday without a plumbing problem

The drains in our house backed up yesterday, and of course the plumber couldn't come to "snake" them until today, because it rained all day yesterday. Yes, it does rain here occasionally. So my mom and I got to spend the night in a hotel. I thought it was kind of fun, but my mom wasn't amused. I mean, we had free drinks last night, and a hot breakfast this morning, and HBO on the TV - what more could you want?

I got to babysit my nephew this morning. He has turned "Lego" into a verb. (He got Thomas the Tank Engine Legos for Christmas.) As in: "Auntie, can you Lego these two pieces together?" Too cute.

Edited to add: Yesterday was my 2 year blog-a-versary! Thanks to all of you for sticking with me!

Memories

Christmas was hard: there are memories of my Dad everywhere. He loved my mom's cookies, and chocolate covered cherries. He was always the hardest family member to buy gifts for, and he usually let my mom pick out the gifts for us. Still, we managed a Christmas dinner with the family, and presents and stockings. We took the traditional picture of all of us around the dinner table, after taking half an hour or so to figure out the timer on the camera - again. I have a new MP3 player to load with music, and a new alarm-clock radio. My nephew got the toy garbage truck he wanted so desperately, as only a 4 year old can want. But of course it wasn't the same, and it's one more part of the process: what we have to go through to come out the other side, changed.

Blogroll Update

I updated the blogroll on the sidebar - there were a lot of people who have disappeared from the blogosphere! If I'm still missing your blog, please email (sdecisis at gmail dot com) or leave a comment - the omission is not intentional. Anyone want to do my Christmas cards for me?

Activity Sets

We've been gradually decorating for Christmas this week. It's a nice procrastination method for me, although my mom has a LOT of decorations. We put out the nativity set yesterday - or as my nephew says, the activity set. For him it is an activity set, though, because he likes to rearrange the people, and introduce new characters: snowmen, bears, dogs, cats, santas - whoever is handy. He's also looking forward to making the gingerbread house next week. He has a pretty artistic eye, although he is of the opinion that the more gumdrops, the better. Who can argue with that?

I passed the MPRE!

MPRE scores are out today - and I passed! I hope I can say the same for the Secured Transactions final I took today - I think I passed, but beyond that, I cannot say. Still, I don't have to take the MPRE again!
